Luigi Stoisa
Luigi Stoisa was born in Selvaggio di Giaveno (Turin) in 1958, where he currently lives and works.
His artistic activity began in the late 1970s, when he was still a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, where he obtained a Diploma in Painting.
He made his debut in 1984 with his first solo exhibition at the Tucci Russo Gallery in Turin. His research thus began in the 1980s, the era of post-modernism, and it is precisely to this period that his first ‘mature’ works date back.
Since then, his entire poetics has always been linked to the changing matter that inexorably modifies forms and images. At the centre of the scene is the tar, present in many works, which transforms itself and the materials around it. Stoisa, however, works with many other materials experimenting with new techniques, from painting, declined in many forms, to sculpture, in terracotta and bronze, to polymateric installations, to drawing, ‘the first form of the idea’.

Winner of prizes for the creation of sculptures for street furniture and public buildings: 1st Umberto Mastroianni Prize (Turin, 1996), light installations for Luci d’Artista (Turin, 1998 to present), installation for the A.I.S.M. of Turin (2004), bronze sculptures for the Italo Calvino Library (Turin, 2008), creation of the Holy Door for Turin Cathedral (2015).
